Your Virtual Host: the University of Toronto

Can I use my mobile phone or have more than one tab open?

Your mobile phone is convenient to use but not powerful enough for Hopin – you need to use your laptop/computer.

For the best attendee experience, we recommend that you close all other tabs whilst accessing the event – especially do not stream other media.

Still having issues? Refresh your page. If a screen pops up and asks you to allow Hopin to share your audio/mic and camera, ensure that you click allow.

If a screen did not pop up and you see a camera symbol to the right of your URL bar, click on it and select Camera > Allow

Important Note: DO NOT USE the browsers Safari, Firefox and Microsoft Edge as they are not fully supported.

What is the minimum recommended internet speed?

Minimum of 5mbps download and 2mbps upload. Ideally, we like to see 30mbps download and 10mbps upload or higher for the best quality. Hopin offers a speed test as soon as you share your audio and video, as follows:

What browser should I use?

Make sure you are using Google Chrome and that it is fully up to date, cookies are enabled and pop-up blockers are off.

If you are a Mac user, set your browser permissions to allow access to the Screen Recording. To do so:

  • Open the System preferences
  • Navigate to Security & Privacy > Privacy
  • Check the box next to the browser you are using.

Reminder: Safari, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer are not fully supported as they lack the capacity needed for live video events.

We do not guarantee that Hopin will work on your mobile phone.

What does our virtual event consist of?

Attendees can watch live-streamed content similar to a physical event whilst engaging with the speakers and other attendees in the sessions via the chat function and on video!
